I have more than items on the tool bar then will show. Instead of having the drop down at the end, can I add a second tool bar?

That seems to work but for Word only. If I follow those same steps for Excel or PowerPoint I do not get the option of picking it for the new document.

Hi vickyJ,
Yes, this behavior is a bit quirky. It seems to only recognize a document when it is a New document, i.e. you have not saved the document yet. I tested this a few times and if you open a blank/new document the drop-down will display the name of "Document1" or "Document2" etc. However when you try to modify the Toolbar for an existing document it will not display that document.

Seems like a bug to me. But it may just be that the design was for the toolbar to be "locked" after the document is created/saved.

Hope that helps a bit. Probably not the ideal solution but at least it provides a work-around.

MikeM,
I've noticed when I'm adding items to my Quick Access Bar, right above the list there is a drop down box that displays "For all documents (default)". Can I add buttons to my Quick Access Bar that will only display in that document? Say I have a mail merge document that I want the mail merge items to show on my Quick Access Bar but only when I'm in that mail merge document. I was reading in "2007 Microsoft® Office System Inside Out" and on one of the pages it states "In the Customize Quick Access Toolbar drop-down list, choose whether to apply this customization to all documents (the default) or to the active document." I have yet to figure out how to do it because the only item in the drop-down box is "For all documents (default)".

@Typegeek: Glad you found the post useful. I've put a number of buttons on the Quick Access Bar and found it to be a real productivity booster. The buttons I use have changed over time - both the number and the functions - as I have gotten to an optimal configuration.

Interesting post. I never considered adding more than 1 or 2 buttons to the quick access toolbar, I simply use it for custom macro buttons you've got a good idea here.
