You can save your Google Search preferences by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the Preferences Page and clicking on the Save Preferences button in the bottom right hand corner of the page. This will save your settings for future searches. 

One item to be aware of is that Google saves these settings as a cookie I beileve. So if you clear all your cookies you may need to go back and set your Google Search preferences again. Does this clear up the problem for you?  Thanks for stopping by.</description>
