@Peg Salvage -- So far I have not seen Windows 7 shipping with Microsoft Security Essentials pre-installed. It will be interesting to see how MSE stacks up against the Internet Security Suites. I tend to think that the security software publishers that might get take the greatest hit from MSE are people like AVG, Avast and other free antivirus publishers. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Thanks for stopping by.

@Chattanooga -- Yes, Norton released some real clunker versions in the 2006-2008 time frame. However they have made some real strides with the 2009 & 2010 versions. Their current versions also do very well, often best in class, when tested by some of the top security labs. Although I must admit I am not a big fan of Norton's 360 products as I find them less than intuitive from a user perspective.

Other good security products include those from Trend, Kaspersky and McAfee. To some degree what will work best for you depends on your specific needs and level of technical expertise. Do you want a "Set-it-and-forget-it" type of solution or are you open to spending time configuring settings and addressing warnings.

I always use an Internet Security Suite as I like to have integrated firewall software and intrusion protection. If you use your computer in an office environment with solid internal security and a hardware firewall this may not be as necessary. However if you ever travel with your computer and connect to non-secure networks (airports, cafes) then strong firewall software is essential.

Thanks for stopping by.

Does anyone know if Windows 7 comes pre-installed with Microsoft Security Essentials? I would expect that Norton takes a pretty big hit from people who upgrade to 7, then don't bother to get Norton back once they have MSE.

I haven't been much of Norton fan in a while...they like to make your life complicated...at least on some versions of the software. Got a good alternative?

I did love the Dokken promo videos though. Funny as hell.

@Kikolani -- Hi Kristi, yes, Kaspersky makes a good product and has been around for a number of years. Norton tends to be a bit easier to administer for non-technical people while still having a lot of configuration capabilities "under the hood."

When you install Norton Antivirus or Internet Security on a Windows 7 computer the Norton Update process will automatically download the 2010 version as soon as the Norton program is installed. A relatively straightforward process. Not sure how this is addressed if you are using the Norton Corporate Antivirus client.
Thanks for stopping by.

@Arafat Hossain Piyada -- Glad you found the info useful. Feel free to share with others as the upgrades from Norton are free and the 2010 versions have some definite improvements. Thanks for stopping by.

I'm a Kaspersky fan myself, but my office runs on Norton, and we have one machine upgraded to Windows 7, so I'll be sure to look into that update. Thanks for the info!
