Computer System Tune Ups and Maintenance

by MikeM on January 29, 2008

Question:  My system seems to be running slower and slower although it never actually crashes. I feel like it needs a tune up like my car. What can I do?

Answer:  Some people still put their computers in the same category as their TV, stereo, or refrigerator. To some, personal computers with their microprocessors, memory, hard disk drives, monitors, and CD/DVD drives, are an appliance that will last for many years with little maintenance required. In reality your computer is actually much more like your automobile than a standard household appliance. Like your car, your computer is dynamic, has many moving parts and in the long run it doesn’t run well without periodic inspections and tune ups.

While most cars and computers are durable and can provide many years of good service, each also needs maintenance. What would happen if you drove your car for three years without changing the oil?  Or five years without replacing the tires? Or replacing the brakes? Or adding fluid to the cooling system?

To keep our client’s systems up and running in an efficient manner Home Technology Solutions of marin (web site here) provides a proactive tune up service. A wide range of clients have found this service very useful for keeping their systems running their best.

A normal tune up requires approximately 1-1/2 – 2 hours for a single system, additional time for multiple systems. So, don’t wait until your car breaks down and you can’t leave the house. Regular computer maintenance is very important for keeping your systems running efficiently and securely. Please contact us (here) for more details on our Tune UP service or to make an appointment.
