Computer and Electronics Recycling Services In Marin

by MikeM on July 22, 2008

Question:  I just purchased a new computer and monitor.  I want to get rid of my old system along with an old laser printer, an ink jet printer and a couple of old cell phones, but want to dispose of them responsibly. Where can I take them in Marin to recycle them?

Answer: Some good options in Marin for recycling your old electronic equipment are: Marin Computer Resource Center in Novato (off of Bel Marin Keys) and Renew Computers in San Rafael (near Jackson’s Hardware).

MCRC is a non-profit organization that refurbishes old equipment and donates it. Items that cannot be refurbished are recycled. Renew Computers also operates a discount parts warehouse and retail store in addition to their recycling center.  Staples office supply stores also offer recycling services for a range of computer, cell phone and electronics.

A good web site for additional recycling information and locations is earth911.org. Many major computer manufacturers also offer recycling services. Check their web sites for details.

Thanks for the helpful information. I don’t read blogs much, so I don’t know if “(web site here)” is common direction for click here to access the web site. Why isn’t the site just underlined, so the user knows it is a link?

Hi Gail,
A good question. Many times in a blog there will be a reference to another blog, another location within the same blog, a specific article or item on another web site, or to a web site in general. The use of “(here)” or “here” or “(web site here)” is a fairly common method of indicating a link to another related location without having to list a potentially long string of text. So it’s really just a matter of efficiency.
